Alex Thio: SCSS Choral Accompanist

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance at Grace College in Indiana, Alex Thio pursued his graduate degrees at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Mr. Thio, a native of Singapore, holds the Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and is a doctoral candidate in Piano Performance at the Conservatory. He serves as the choral accompanist for Sycamore Junior High and High School choirs and has toured with the Sycamore Community Summer Singers since 2005.
Mr. Thio started studying the piano at a young age and received his Licentiate Teaching Diploma from the Trinity College of Music, London. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States also as a collaborative artist to Tim Zimmerman & King’s Brass, a 10-member brass group incorporating brass, percussion and piano/keyboard. He has recorded with the ensemble and appears in their “Christmas” and “Americana” albums, performing his original compositions and arrangements for piano and orchestra. His latest recording project entitled Symbiosis is a collaboration with renowned brass soloists Gail Robertson (euphonium) and Stacy Baker (tuba), exploring and premiering repertoire for euphonium, tuba and piano. Mr. Thio also serves as competition accompanist for the North American Brass Band Association and the International Women’s Brass Conference. He will be serve as one of the official collaborative pianists for the IWBC 2010 Solo Competitions to be held in Toronto, Canada in the Summer of 2010.
Mr. Thio has continued to be an instructor of piano and music theory in the Cincinnati area. He is a Founding Teacher for the National Music Certificate Program, a division of the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto, Canada), dedicated to providing American students with nationwide opportunities for achievement and evaluation in the performing arts.
